Camping With Your Dog: Five Outdoors Tips!

Who doesn't love stepping away from the hustle and bustle of life and spending time out in nature? Being a dog parent comes with some extra responsibility, especially when vacationing in the great outdoors. That's why we put together a few tips and tricks to make camping with your dog a fun time with minimal worries and maximum relaxation.

1) Choose A Dog Friendly Campsite

Believe it or not, not all campsites are dog friendly. Don't wait until you're at the park entrance and the ranger tells you to head back home because the huge puppy eyes sadly didn't work. Make sure you educate yourself on the status of park policies beforehand, and pick a campsite that welcomes your furry friend. If you're looking for a good service that helps you find pet friendly areas near you, BringFido.com is a great website that can help!

2) Prep And Pack In Advance

It's so easy to forget something important when packing in a rush! Take your time, and make a well-thought out check list: dog food, water bowl, waste bags, etc. Think about everything your pup uses at home, and then think about what they also might need while traveling. Don't forget the first aid kit!

3) Make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date

Although this might not be checked at the campsite, it's crucial to your dog's health & other the doggos around them that they're vaccinated while exploring the great outdoors. You can read our article about the importance of pet vaccination to learn more!

4) Use flea & tick protection

It's no secret that fleas and ticks thrive outside. Whether you plan to hike a few miles or simply hang out at the campsite, your pup could easily run into some not-so-friendly tiny little faces that may carry diseases. Using flea & tick protection is so important! As always, discuss with your vet beforehand what is best for your dog- it's always good to check.

5) Invest in camping gear for your doggo

Your doggo might need some things that they don't necessarily need at home every day. Investing in grade-A camping & travel gear could not only keep them safe, but make them feel comfy even while away from home. It's also a huge convivence when packing if you already have a camping gear pile ready to grab and go. Below are a few products we recommend!
